Audi Stages Rally Duel between 1983 Sport Quattro and New S3 Hatch

8:50 AM

The 1980s Audi Sport Quattro was essentially a road-going version of the Audi Sport Quattro S1 rally car, and in this respect, it is one of the most sought-after and rare “young-timer” cars. With 306PS (302hp) on tap from a 2.1-liter 5-cylinder turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive, it remains a very capable sports car even when compared to today’s models.

In a promotional video meant to highlight the connection between the Sport Quattro and the latest S3, Audi staged a rally duel between the two cars. The Audi S3 hatchback features a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 300 PS (296hp).

The location for the duel was an old stage of the Rallye San Remo in Italy, between Torre a Castello and Asciano. The Sport Quattro, which may be revived in the near future, was driven by legendary rally driver Stig Blomqvist, while the S3 was driven by Hermann J. Müller.

You’ll have to watch the video to find out which car was faster.
